 BASIC GRAPHIC DESIGN

 HISTORY
The Egyptians wrote and illustrated narratives on rolls of papyrus to share the stories and art with others.  During the Middle Ages, scribes manually copied each individual page of manuscripts to maintain their sacred teachings. The scribes would leave marked sections of the page available for artists to insert drawings and decorations. Using art alongside the carefully lettered text enhanced the religious reading experience.
Due to the development of larger fonts during the Industrial Revolution, posters became a popular form of graphic art used to communicate the latest information as well as to advertise the latest products and services.
The invention and popularity of film and television changed graphic art through the additional aspect of motion as advertising agencies attempted to use kinetics to their advantage.

TASK 1

ROLE OF A GRAPHIC

MEANING OF LOGO

A graphical mark used to identify a company, organization, product or brand. Logos can be displayed along side - or in lieu of - a company's name in order to generate awareness of the company's association with a particular product or service. The particular graphic used may be a stylized version of the company lettering (such as a wordmark) or abstract (such as a shape unrelated to the company lettering).

MEANING OF LOGO/SYMBOL
A sign can be defined as a lettered or patterned board that conveys meaning, command, or directions. Another kind of sign is more intangible or spiritual, like, “a sign of success.” For a graphic design discussion, let’s stick to the first definition. Generally speaking, there are three types of signs: symbol, index and icon. Depending on the project requirements, we may be asked to design one or more of these sign types. Let’s look at the differences and some examples of each.
- An icon is directly related to what it represents, the meaning is immediately evident and it can be a smaller part that represents a whole.
- A symbol does not have direct connection to what it represents. The meaning usually needs to be     learned through association.

Kennedy (1864-1928), an advertisement is "salesmanship in print.

MEANING OF PRODUCT PACKAGING
Packaging is more than just your product's pretty face. Your package design may affect everything from breakage rates in shipment to whether stores will be willing to stock it. For example, "displayability" is an important concern. The original slanted-roof metal container used for Log Cabin Syrup was changed to a design that was easier to stack after grocers became reluctant to devote the necessary amounts of shelf space to the awkward packages. Other distribution-related packaging considerations include labeling, opening, size and durability.

                            Silviya yordanova

My name is Silviya Yordanova  . I've always wanted to find a way to create beauty and letting the world know my story. This is where digital art came! I have been into it for a few years now, started in the early 2008.  I've found my own style - depicting the reality through a twist of imagination. My works are always a mixture of concept, emotion and a drop of darkness. Photo manipulation has since then become a very important part of me and since I started I've been trying to improve my skills as much as I can. At first it all started as a hobby but in time it became much more. I found that through it many doors of opportunities were opened for me when I was first contacted for a commission, then for another one and with time it became my own little business and I hope for all the best in the future. My passion lies in creating art, trying to make the world a better and beautiful place, into expressing myself through it. My dream is to keep doing what I love for a living and to have the chance to work with publishing companies all around the world.

FEATURES
My work has been featured in magazines all over the world - Advanced Photoshop(UK), Photoshop Creative(UK), Advanced Creation(France), Der Bildbearbeiter(Germany), Dark Beauty Magazine, Pagan Edge, MuseTouch etc. The most recent feature and a huge honor that my work received was when I was offered a feature in Aädenian Ink's artbook about contemporary gothic art called "Out of the Dark".
